An Odd Built-In Makeover

We have this odd little built-in on one of the walls of our dining room. On the other side of it is the front door. I think that at one time it may have been an open display space. I am not sure why it was closed up, this is a rental house after all.

This was the first time I decorated this area after we moved in. I put a $1 spot roll of wrapping paper on the back of the walls. A few decorative pretties and wine glasses.
It looked great and I liked it, until I didn’t.
I love to change things around. Even little things I have already “decorated”.

This is what it looks like now. A very tight color story- purple, turquoise, black, white, and silver.
The first thing I did was change the wrapping paper on the back walls. I found this roll at TJ Maxx for just a few dollars, and I have so much of this paper left to wrap presents if I like. I love the purple and white clover pattern. The paper has a matte finish which is so nice, the other paper had a bit of a shine to it and “looked” like wrapping paper. This could almost pass as real wall paper.

A couple of aluminum trays, found at garage sales or thrift stores. I pick them up if they are $1 or less. Some glass bottles and jars from Target’s $1 spot.

The hedgehog coaster my son gave me for Christmas last year.

This is my favorite aluminum tray, I have had it for years. This pattern is a floral-paisley type pattern, and it goes all the way to the edges of the plate.

I am a huge breakfast person, I can eat breakfast for any meal. My boyfriend got me this little sign for Christmas last year. I love it, and it’s true. 😉

I gave this sign to my boyfriend when we moved into this little house. It is how I really feel about him. I guess we like these type of little signs 😉

In the center is a collage that a dear friend made for us.

She made it with small objects all in my favorite colors of turquoise and silver. And it has our last name initials in it, I love that most of all.
You can see a little six pack of beer, lots of hearts, flowers and dogs.

More jars from Target.

I found this little mirror at a thrift store for $1. It had a very dirty leather frame. I first painted it black, and then washed silver and gray paint over it. Now it looks more like the aluminum trays I like so much. You can see frames on top of the china cabinet in the mirror.

Another paper collage that my boyfriend and I made. We had this in the bathroom of his old apartment, and it has sat here since we moved in.
A coffee mug filled with extra keys, and votive candle holders with chalk for the chalkboard.
Here are a few close up art photos of the pretties.

There you have it, a little make over for an odd built in.
Do you like the changes?
