A Thrifted Makeover- A cork board? Yep!

Hi There!

I have a little makeover for you.
I found this cork board by the side of the road. It is pretty big 36 x 24 inches. It was wet and a bit smelly. I sprayed it down with a vinegar and water solution I made, and let it dry out for months. This baby sat in the garage for the winter, waiting for me to get around to it.

When I got around to it, I first painted it with Zinsser primer, it took about three coats.

The cork had a lot of holes. And the frame is NOT wood. But all was in pretty good shape anyway.

I missed taking photos of the next two steps.
1- I painted the cork a light Gray color. Leaving the frame white- for now.
2- I decide to do a quilt pattern on the cork. I started by drawing a grid pattern of pencil lines. And then I took a can of Tomatoes to draw the intersecting circles in the grid.

Using craft paints I painted all of the leaf or petal shape intersections of the circles.

I used 22 different colors for the leaf or petal shapes.
A few of the colors needed two or three coats to cover well.

I then painted the frame a dark Gray color.

Then the hardest part, erasing all the pencil lines. It really started to hurt my arm at the end. But it was so worth it! It really made the whole project look complete and clean.

I took it outside to get some good photos.

It looks pretty cool on the patio. I love the Gnome and flowers with it.

I just moved the table and chair over here for the photos.
I am working on my “styling” for the blog.
Its fun to set up little vignettes, even if it is just for a few photos.

What do you think of of my trash-found cork board?
Pretty? I think so!
Thanks for stopping by!
