$100 Room Challenge: Diggin’ In the Dirt

$100 Room Challenge:

The Back Porch Makeover

Welcome to week two of the $100 Room Challenge– where we have started some of the diggin’ in the dirt dirty work on the Back Porch Makeover.

The $100 Room Challenge: One Month, One Room, $100

Check out my first post for this makeover- Back Porch Makeover

If it’s your first time here- welcome! I’m Jackie– a t-shirt and jeans kind of woman, who loves Taco’s and DIY’s. I’m so glad that you’re here.

Let’s take a quick look at what has happened so far with this $100 Back Porch makeover.

Makeshift bench on the move

I thought we would start this post with a couple of pretty photos. You see most of my makeover plan is just cleaning and painting. And well- that’s just dirty and boring. Who wants to watch paint dry? But don’t worry I do plan on sharing a couple of those photos too 😉

Before we get to those- first I will share this photo of the Makeshift bench that I moved from the front of the garage to the side over on the patio. And I am loving it over here so far. It looks so cute!

Filling an empty space with a Makeshift bench

Moving the Makeshift bench over here to fill an empty space was such a smart idea! I am kicking myself that I didn’t do it sooner. With the two galvanized stools on either side it fills this space so nicely.

Brick over an odd little space

Dirt, rocks, and bricks- oh my!
Pulling out all the garbage in this little space by the garage

When we first moved in I filled this little space with glass rocks from my old home. I have always picked up glass rocks at garage sales and dollar stores on the cheap. It’s such a fun way to fill an outdoor space and make it pretty.

Check out my other posts on this small space:

What was once pretty, will be pretty once more!

Before I could even think about filling this space with some upcycled bricks- I needed to empty out the broken bits of terra-cotta, aquarium pebbles, and glass rocks. I sat sorting them each out into plastic dishes, and it was very tedious, to say the least. I had to dig in the dirt to pull all the junk out and get it ready for the makeover.

It was here that I was questioning all of my life choices. So many glass rocks- why did I do this again? Just keeping pulling them out, Jackie, pull them out!

Diggin’ in the Dirt- or dig it out

Dirt and bricks- coming along
Diggin’ in the Dirt- not the Peter Gabriel song!

Once all of the glass rocks and such were pulled out- it was time to start diggin’ in the dirt. Time to dig out enough dirt to accommodate some sand and bricks to fill in this space.

And that is where we will stop for this week. Because that’s only how far we got. I do hope that you will stop by next week and see what more progress I can make on this spot and the Back Porch Makeover.

All for $100 or less!

Another pretty photo just for fun 😉
