The best Christmas present ever!

Two years ago Puente gave me the best Christmas present ever. He gave me a project. That man knows what I like. I love a good project. Something fun.

Now let me give you a little background story. It is the fall of 2012, and I have dragged Puente with me thrifting. He is always so sweet to go with me. He says he likes it. And I think most of the time he does. Anyway we are at a thrift store looking around and I see this little china cabinet. It’s an ugly yellow, and dirty. Like it had been in someone’s basement or garage. And I tell him how much I like the shape of it. The curve on top, the glass doors and shelves, the molded doors on the bottom, the big tacky handles. He just looks at it. Waits a minute, then asks how I would change it. I start talking about paint colors. Yes when I first saw this baby, I could see it in many colors. But I said what it really needed was to be cleaned. He didn’t say much else about it and we moved on. We left that day empty handed. I didn’t need a china cabinet, I was getting a house ready to sell.

Along come the holidays. We are busy with work. My kids go to visit their dad. We decide we are not going to celebrate until they come home. It’s a Saturday, we are getting ready for the day. We need to pick the kids up from the airport in a couple of hours. I am in the bathroom, brushing my teeth. Puente tells me I have to stay in the bathroom. I just look at him. “Okay…” Then I hear the dogs barking, and talking. Puente tells me I can come out now. I walk out to the front room, with my toothbrush still in my mouth. And there she is. I can’t believe it. It had been 2 or 3 months since we had seen her. So sweet that man.

He had gone to get her for me, and they had marked her down pretty low. He had to get her for me. But he was told it was going to be two weeks before she could be delivered. That would be too late. He paid for her, and planned on giving me a photo of her that day. Then the call came, they had some room in the schedule and could bring her that day after all. Puente jumped at it, Bring it.

He was nervous waiting for the truck to show up. But I was occupied with getting ready I didn’t notice. Then another call came…….. loading her in the truck the guys broke one of the glass shelves.
OH NO
Was he still interested? Yes. They would take a few more dollars off to pay for the glass. Now the china cabinet cost less than the delivery. You know how much I love a good deal!! That is my favorite part of the story 😉
Here is the sad part, she then sat in the garage for another couple of months before I could get to her. Then I just knew she needed to be turquoise. And I love it. I just wish it was a little brighter. When we were staging the old house she had different light and looked brighter there. Maybe another day of painting is coming up for her.

I display odds and ends. Some funky little things I want to have out and see how pretty they are.

We love these painted tequila bottles! I just wish the tequila was better.

I painted the back inside a silver. You get a nice sheen.

Small little pretties.

The sock monkey doll was a birthday gift from my niece and nephew.
Too cute.

I put some trays and colored vases on the top. I love having the height, it makes the room seem taller.

You can see the gold edging on the glass doors. So retro. Love it.

Do you love it as much as I do?
What was your best gift ever?
