My top 9 photos for 2018

Oh, how I love those little squares!

Instagram, oh how I love you. I have been using Instagram for around two years now. Opening up an account on a whim to see what some of my favorite bloggers that I was following were posting. One such blogger had made a comment that it takes so much more time to post for her blog than what she could do on Instagram. And that the response time to an Instagram photo is almost immediate. Since I was looking for ways to improve my own blogging experience I thought that I would give it a try. I have to say it is by far my social media platform of choice. Take a photo, write a quick caption, add a few hashtags, post to the free app, and you’re done!

In this post, I will share my top 9 photos from 2018 and the captions that I wrote to accompany them. It’s been kinda fun looking back!

Blue Painted China Cabinet

Posted on March 19 with 147 likes and 43 comments

I love posting progress photos for my DIY projects on Instagram. This is my China Cabinet makeover that I worked on last winter. I posted this photo after finishing it up and styling the shelves. The caption reads:

“Happy Monday πŸ’™ Happy project complete πŸ’™ I started to paint my china cabinet way back in January. Finally, over the weekend I finished it. A Navy Blue exterior with a Sand interior. I am so in love with how it came out. The colors are the direction I am wanting to take the rest of the room. And now I feel motivated to move on to the next project.”

I was and still am overwhelmed by the amount of comments I received on this photo. The Blue color of the cabinet was the most favorited part of this photo.

A Clean Living Space

Posted April 6 with 140 likes and 12 comments

Last year I swapped the sides of the living room that our sectional was sitting on. In a series of progress photos, I showed our whole front room layout. The caption reads:

“Who doesn’t love a clean room with two puppies? πŸ’™πŸΆπŸΆπŸ’™ In my post yesterday I showed the dining area opposite of this sitting area. The dining is heavy with blue colors, so to balance the sectional is wearing a sand slipcover. I am so happy with the changes I’ve made.”

A Letterboard Quote

Posted on February 19 with 140 likes and 18 comments

I had been wanting a letter board, but they can be so expensive. I was able to find this one on sale and shared it with a funny quote. It still makes me laugh! The original caption reads:

“Swapping out my decor always makes me smile. The quote on the letter board makes me smile. Blues and Greens are my favorite colors and make me smile. Making and displaying my DIY art and decor makes me smile. I am making a promise to myself to do more with my life that makes me smile. πŸ’™πŸ˜ƒπŸ’š Have you done something to make yourself smile today? I hope so sweet friend, we all need more joy and smiling πŸ˜ƒ”

A Thrifted Bar cart

Posted on May 23 with 139 likes and 18 comments

One of the activities that is fun to do on Instagram is to play a hashtag game. What’s a hashtag game? Well, different accounts owners will host daily hashtags and will choose a favorite photo as the winner. Rules are pretty similar for most games in that you need to include the hashtag in your caption, and tag or follow the hosts of the game. It is a fun and easy way to get your photos seen by new accounts.

I often play the hashtag games. I prefer hashtag themes for photo a day challenges, they keep me motivated for posting. But sometimes I just like to share for a friends hashtag that they are promoting. This bar cart photo is one such time I posted for a new hashtag game that was just getting going.

“I’ve been taking a little break from posting. But tonight I thought I would share for #myownbestcustomer πŸ’™ My friend Jenna of @vintagebohemian365 has this fun tag for all of you have a side hustle but maybe you keep a little something special for your self. I found this amazing bamboo bar cart at an estate sale and had to have it! 😜”

Succulents in colorful tile patterns pots

So Much Potted Plant Love!

Posted on April 25 with 324 likes and 24 comments

Just like with everything else, sometimes I just need a break from Instagram. Last spring I took a couple of days away to work on other projects here for the blog. I had taken this photo on a whim after a trip to Lowes and posted it without much thought behind it. Will you just look at what happened! It is my most liked photo, like ever! That happens sometimes, you post a photo you really love and it doesn’t get much attention. Or you post without thinking and it blows up! It is a beautiful photo if I do say so myself. Love those pots so much. My Instagram caption reads:

“I was just going to take a couple of days away from IG. Now here it is more than a week later and I finally feel inspired to post. I have taken days off in the past and still checked out my feed and everyone’s photos but not this time. Somehow it was harder this time. Not sure why πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ πŸ’™β€οΈπŸ–€ Anyway- We found these super cool succulents and pots at @loweshomeimprovement over the weekend. I have plans to use them on our patio that I have been working on for the #oneroomchallenge β€οΈπŸ’™πŸ–€ Posts are up on the blog with my plans and a couple of projects that are complete. πŸ’™β€οΈπŸ–€”

Patio Dining Table

Dining Al fresco!

Posted on May 5th with 180 likes and 39 comments

In the Spring of 2018, I had been working on our Patio and Back yard for the One Room Challenge or the ORC. It is a design challenge that is open to professional Designers and Guest Participants- like me. The challenge is pretty simple- in six weeks makeover one room in your home. It was a fun experience for me- one that pushed me out from my comfort zone. You can check out my reveal for the Patio in this ORC in three parts- Part 1, and Part 2 , and Part 3

During that time we had a fun dinner for Cinco de Mayo and I snapped a quick photo before my family came over for a celebratory Tacos! See what I mean about the “quick, don’t think too much about it” photos! They’re my most liked!

“Happy Cinco de Mayo! We had a lovely day with my sister and her kids. πŸ’šπŸ’™β€οΈ”

Give Me all the Colors!!!

Posted on May 30 with 136 likes and 35 comments

One aspect that I love about Instagram is the community that it builds. I have met some wonderful and supportive people from this little phone app. I have been involved with a couple of different groups that have hosted hashtag games. This photo was part of a series of photos that I styled and took to promote our theme- Monochrome Decor. I had done photos with Blue, Green, Purple, and Sand or Neutral colors. But then I did this Yellow and Orange photo- again real quick. Just collected all the Yellow and Orange decor from around the back yard and shot a couple of photos. Easy-Peasy!

What is the most liked part of this photo? That Orange painted chair! A “free-by-the-side-of-the-road” find that I spray painted with an extra can of paint I had in my stash. It is such a sweet little chair that I still love!

“It’s rainy again. I thought maybe the rain was done for a while. But jokes on me, rain for the next two days πŸ˜‘ So I guess I will just have to post my own sunny photo for #monochromedecorchallenge using bright Yellow and Orange. If you’re interested in playing see a couple of posts back for all the details. We will be choosing a winner this weekend, and the prize is to be featured on 15 different accounts. Pretty sweet πŸ€—”

Bright and Colorful Decor is My Jam!

Posted on June 22 with 205 likes and 23 comments

What I love so much about the Instagram community is that I can be so open and honest with my captions. That often results in getting such great support and love from people- that even though I have never met them in Real Life- I consider them to be Real Friends. Case in point- I posted this photo from my ORC Patio makeover with a caption that was more about how I was feeling than with what is represented in the photo.

“I have been a little MIA this week. I had a migraine, and that was tough. Then I downgraded it to just a headache and all I wanted to do was sleep. So I did πŸ˜‰ Today I feel much better and I have been able to catch up on some of your feeds. I am so impressed with all of the inspiration out there. All of you have amazing homes and styles. I am so grateful that you take the time to comment and like on my photos too. πŸ’™β€οΈπŸ’œπŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ–€”

My Boho Living Room Window- Plants, Plants, and a couple more Plants

Plants and Puppies are My Loves and props too!

Posted on July 9 with 158 likes and 9 comments

In most of my top nine photos, nice green Plants make an appearance. There are many hashtags just for the photos with plants as the focus. The IG Plant community loves their plants.

Pets are HUGE on Instagram! Some Pets have their own accounts. I take photos of my puppies all the time! I don’t post them all the time, but sometimes I am able to post a photos with them in it and still have it be a decor photo. The Living room photo about is one such photo. The caption reads:

“I changed up the layout in the living room again πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ You can see Lulu sleeping there on the back of the chair. She’s been mad about the changes for a couple of days now. But today finally settled into a new napping spot 🐢 The light is amazing right now- so #nofilter Hope your weekend has been a good one β˜€οΈ”
