Late Fall Front Porch Decor 2017

Hi There!

I thought that I would jump on and post before December hit. The month of November has flown for me, and I did not get up on here at all. How did that happen?

If you would like to see more from me, and on a more regular basis, Follow me on Instagram! Where I post almost everyday, and sometimes twice 😉

Here is our Front Porch all decorated for the Fall. Fall, I think I will miss you most of all!

Everything I already had on hand. Budget decorating all the way over here! I just pulled items that had lots of wood tones, with a focus on a bit of yellow, with some reds and purples for a pop of color.

Color stories, or pairings, or groupings are an important step in decorating. If you are designing a room, or doing a display having a collection of colors can help you have a cohesive design.

This super cute $3 sign from the Target Dollar spot was the jumping off point for the Fall decor this year. The Fall Farmhouse feel was the direction I wanted to take. Sometimes I’m farmhouse, sometimes I’m bohemian. “I’m a little bit country, I’m a little bit rock and roll!”  If you don’t know the song, look it up! And yes, I am that old.

Using my thrifted wood work bench as the base, I layered baskets and crates for different heights to display items and plants. The weather was still really nice, and I was lucky enough to still have plants in good condition to decorate with.

Looking at these photos, I believe that everything was thrifted. The baskets, the red gas can, the tables- everything! I love decorating on a budget, and I think that it is possible to have a lovely home doing it. Collect what you like, and the items will always find a way to work together.

The wreath, the geometric artwork, and the address sign are all DIY projects. I love to craft, and by doing so I have decor that fits a style or theme I am going for. Now, you say you’re not crafty like that? Bull! The wreath is book pages folded and stapled to a wreath form. Anyone can do that! The Geometric art work? A scrap piece of wood that I stenciled. Anyone can do that! The address sign? A quilt pattern that I drew out, and filled in with paint. A little bit more complicated, but really Anyone could do that!

I tried to balance the yellows and reds across the porch to balance the whole design.

See the purple leaf plant? In the paper bag, in a basket?

Well, another way that I used what I had- a still healthy and pretty annual in a pot. The only problem was: the pot did not match my color story, the pot is blue. I took the plant in the blue pot, and put it in a paper bag. A plain old grocery store bag, nothing special. I then crumpled the top of the bag down, so that the blue on the pot wouldn’t show. Then just put the whole thing in a thrifted basket that did match.

This is one of my most liked photos on Instagram. I got so many comments on using the picnic basket to hold the purple spike flowers. Many of my friends said that they were going to steal the idea. I say- DO IT! Use items in ways they weren’t intended, and your decor will always be fresh and exciting.

My ferns were so big and lovely this year, So big in fact, they couldn’t be displayed on the porch any more. They are each on stands in the garden bed. It was a nice way to fill in an empty spot in the garden. I just now noticed the dried fall leaves that are in the ferns. See, still learning this whole blogging thing. If I was a “real” blogger, those would not be there. But lets face it, I am showing you how to make the everyday beautiful. I really am everyday and normal. I believe that you can do it to!

I hope that I can inspire you to have and decorate your home on a thrifting, garage sale budget! Don’t wait for the perfect piece, at the perfect price. Don’t wait to love your home. We rent our little house, and I decorate it like I own it. It makes me happy, and I believe it makes a difference in our lives. Thanks for stopping by!
