Hello there!
I love to craft. I love to make things.
I love to craft. I love to make things.
I paint. I sew. I make jewelry.
I have so many tubs of supplies. I may have a problem.
As I do crafts, I will document it, and show them to you here.
First up- Halloween DIY Poison Bottles
There are many ways to make your own bottles out there, this is just the way I made mine.
There are many ways to make your own bottles out there, this is just the way I made mine.
You will need:
– Old clean bottles
– Craft Paint
– Watercolor paint
– Glue
– Paint Brushes
– Paper towel
– Plastic containers for water and paint
– A computer and printer to print the images
– Black marker
– Black marker
Wash and dry the glass bottle well. Pour a small amount of craft paint and water in the bottle. I used silver paint, I wanted to try and give the look of a mercury poison. Swirl the paint to coat the inside of the bottle. Pour any excess out into a plastic container, this can be reused for any additional bottles.
Swirl the paint and let drain to the bottom of the bottle a few times. The more it is done the more coats of paint will stick to the inside of the bottle.
These three bottles are in different stages of the drying time. The bottle on the left is dried. The one in the middle, has been swirled and let dry twice. The bottle on the right has just been given the paint and water.
This a completed bottle. I love the layered paint effect inside the bottle. I also love the silver metallic look of the paint, it gives that mercury look I was going for.
Next you will need an image for your label. I found mine on The Graphics Fairy website. They have so many wonderful images you can use in your crafts. And you can use them for free. You know how much I love that price!
I searched for Halloween and choose this skull and crossbones image. I downloaded it and printed it out from my computer, in many different sizes for all my bottles. I just used the regular copy paper I had on hand, no need for special paper for this project.
Out came the watercolors to age the labels. Now, I want you to know you can not mess this up! Watercolors are very forgiving, you can add more paint if they are too light, and water them down if they are too dark.
I used brown and yellow paint mixing with water to get the look I wanted. I then carefully ripped the paper around the image, which was easy since the paper was wet. I then placed the label on a paper towel and put more brown paint around the edges.
While the label was still a bit wet, I covered the back of it with white craft glue. I placed the label on the bottle and covered the front with glue as well. Just to seal all the edges, and make sure all the air bubbles were smoothed out.
Once the label was completely dried, I took a black marker to the edges to darken them up just a bit more. I really love how they turned out. I ended up making 5 bottles to use with my Halloween decorating. More posts on that to come. A lot more 😉
The cost for this project? Free. I had everything on hand. But if you had to buy any of the paints or other items needed, I am sure you could get what you need for under $8 to $10.
What do you think?
Does that seem like an easy craft to do?
Try them, I had fun making them.
Thanks for stopping by 🙂
