Thrifted Mirrors Made Over

You may remember these cute little mirrors from a Thrifted Treasures posting. I got them new, still in the plastic for $1 each. They are Ikea mirrors, with a natural unfinished wood.
These guys sat for a couple of weeks, untouched. Then inspiration hit, I wanted to do something a bit bold, but classic. Something that I wouldn’t get tired of.
Stripes.

These mirror frames are not very big, only 10 inches square. The mirror itself is only a little under 4 inches. To make these stripes bold, I made them one full inch wide. I used a ruler, and marked the lines with a pencil.

I used the mitered corners of the frame as a guide for the stripes. I wanted the stripes to be coming out of the mirror.
I then used a small paint brush and craft paint to paint the stripes. I made sure to stay in the lines and went over the edges of the frames. That way the sides had stripes too.
I used black paint for this mirror. I love that you can still see the wood grain through the paint.
I used gray paint for the stripes on this one. I would love to find a few more of these to paint with white or a darker gray. I think a grouping would look awesome.
I really love how these turned out.
What do you think?
Would you have painted? Or stained them?
