Flowers and Succulents, oh my

Plants just make a space feel so warm. Don’t you think?
I love flowers. Who doesn’t? I always put flowers outside my house. I feel they make a house look like a home. If the flowers are well tended and loved, so is the home.
I am not picky about what flowers I get. I am not a garden snob at all. I know some names, but not all. I like, what I like. I am always looking for flowers that are cheap, and will last. A trick that I do is to find the cheap hanging plants at Lowe’s or Home Depot, and pull them out and put them in pots. They can fill a pot for $5 to $10. Instant gratification at it’s finest. This year with the Color theme, I choose a few different colors for the patio. Orange, Red, Purple, Blue and White.

My new obsession is succulents in glass containers. I bought these little guys at Lowe’s, $3 to $4 each.  The glass jar is from a thrift store, it was $1. I got the cactus soil mix, and crushed stones to fill the jar from a local nursery.
The glass beads I had on hand. I always buy my glass beads at thrift stores, garage sales, and the dollar store. They are nice to fill in on top of pots as well. They help with the pot not drying out too fast.
This little glass candle holder is from a thrift store, I think it was 50 cents. I love the colors, so pretty.

I put in about 1/2 of an inch of the crushed stones at the bottom of the jar. They have a light green, white and grey color to them. I think they are so pretty, I had to get them. Then another 1/2 of an inch of glass beads, I used light green ones. Then the soil, you want to make sure you use a light weight soil for cactus plants. Succulents like to be watered, then dry out. This soil also just looks nice against the glass, since it is so light and fine.

Here is anther lovely succulent I found. I really like the grey-green color, with the red-brown edges. And this glass pot is so cute! I have a thing for items that are made of one material, but look like another. A clear glass pot, shaped like a terra-cotta pot. I love that! And even better? It was from a thrift store for $1.

This little guy got a thrifted vintage pot, also just $1. I love aluminum trays. They have that galvanized metal feel I love so much. I can usually find them for $1 or less. And yes, I do have a few of them. ( That little purple triangle? A guitar pick from when Puente was playing outside. It makes me smile. ) I think the little lemon dish might be a soap dish. I also got it at a thrift store, 50 cents. I really like the pop of yellow, next to the green pot, on the turquoise table. Color, love it!

I found this little pot by the side of the road, while out on my morning walk. I just love free! It was a dirty terra-cotta, that I spray painted. I love this kelly green. It is the same color I painted my front door at my old house. So happy. So bright.

Another shot of the jar. Another metal tray on a bright table. So many little things that make me happy to look at. And that is what it’s all about right? Things that make you happy. I think that is what home is all about.

One last shot of beautiful flowers. I love the combination of orange, purple and pink flowers. These are my favorite flowers that I have gotten this year. They hang on the corner of the garage, where I can see it from the kitchen window. So I can enjoy them from inside and out.
Do you add plants to your spaces? Flowers to the outside?
