DIY Painted Bottle Brush Trees

From Too Bright to Just Right!

DIY Painted Bottle Brush Trees for your holiday decorating. This is so easy and quick that this is almost a before and after post rather than a how-to tutorial. Let’s take a look at how I took clearance bright colored bottle brush trees that I had and made them work for my holiday decorating now.

This is the first of my Holiday 2020 Craft series. Over the next several posts I am going to show how to upcycle your outdated decor and make it current for now.

Let’s start with these pretty Bottle Brush Trees.

Whoa- that’s a Bright Fuschia Pink!

Fuschia Pink Bottle Brush Trees
I love a non-traditional color- Fuschia Pink Bottle Brush trees for the holidays. But even for me, these were just a little too bright. What’s a DIY loving girl to do?

Who loves Bottle Brush trees for their holiday decorating? I DO! I DO!

True Vintage Bottle Brush Trees are so hard to find and are usually out of my thrift store price range. But fortunately for the last several years, you can find reproductions at the big box stores for pretty good prices. These Fuschia Pink Bottle Brush trees were at the Target Bullseye’s Playground (formerly the Dollar spot) a couple of years ago. I bought six of these after the holidays when they were on clearance for 90% off- which means I got them for 10 cents each!

I had to do it, I couldn’t pass them up.

Can you blame me?

But then they just sat in the bag down in the basement. And sat, and sat, and sat.

I needed to use them and make them work for my holiday decorating and not just be wasted in the basement. But how?

Here’s the Super EASY DIY How-To:

Spray painted Bottle Brush Trees- a simple DIY anyone can do
Before and after Painted Bottle Brush trees- side by side

Like I said- this is super easy and not much of a tutorial. But here goes:

  • Buy bottle brush trees. In any color- mine were Fushia Pink
  • Tape the base of the tree off with painters tape
  • Chose your spray paint color- I chose a Silver Nickel
  • Place the taped bottle brush trees into a cardboard box
  • Spray paint the trees- Mine took several coats of paint. I wanted to dull the pink but not remove it completely. You can decide just how much of the original color you want your trees to have.
  • Let the paint dry completely and remove the tape.
  • Time to decorate- the fun part!!!

See- not too complicated. Trust me, you can do this DIY too!
