Hi There!
I thought I would do a quick update on a project I love.
DIY Mexican Painted Pottery
When I first started the blog, I show some plastic pots that I painted here.
I wanted the look, but not the price. I brought out the craft paints and a Sharpie marker.
And I loved it!
Then again, last year I made over another thrifted plastic pot.
And this time I showed step by step how I did it.
Too easy and too cool, and too much to love.
Well, here it is year 3, and I thought I would update how they are looking now.
Well, I think they still look amazing!
I grouped them together on this odd part of our driveway. They look great from the street. So bright and pretty.
This Aztec patterned guy is from last year.
He started off as a plastic orange/brown pot. You can see his transformation here.
His paint job held up really well. I only needed to touch up one spot on the rim of the pot.
I am still so in love with this color combination. I just love the primary colors.
Purple is not traditionally a color used for Mexican painted pottery. But I love purple and pink flowers and this purple painted pot works for me.
He needed a lot of touch up on his paint this year. Most of the colors had faded, and just needed to be brightened up a bit.
I can’t quite get this guy right.
He has not been featured before, but works well in this grouping of pots on the driveway.
He has been painted all yellow before. Then yellow with green and orange on the details.
And just didn’t feel right…
Well, as I have said before, my favorite color is blue.
So this year, I painted over the yellow and green with some light and dark blues. I still wanted some of the yellow to show through, so I sort of dry brushed the blues over it, and I like him a bit more now.
BUT, he still needs something. I might stencil some flowers on the light blue, we’ll see.
This one was this first pot to be painted in this style.
He is my favorite! and I have another small one just like him, waiting to be painted the same way.
This year I painted over all of the colors, and relined all of the black lines. He had some chipped spots and faded colors, and just needed to be freshened up.
Now he is looking as handsome as ever!
Sometimes, you really want to try a craft or project to get what you want. Then you finish them, and you use them, and then you have other interests. And sometimes time goes by, and you wonder what were you thinking? This is not one of those times!
I love these pots!
They give me the look I want, at a price I can afford. The painting gives me the creative outlet I crave, and the satisfaction of doing a project on my own.
What projects have you done lately?
Thanks for stopping by!
