I have the most thoughtful boyfriend.
I saw this old window at an antique shop. I love the shape. Not too big or too small. I love the lead glass, the diamond pattern. I knew it could be a fun project. But it was the holidays and I wasn’t spending any money, except on presents for my kids and my boyfriend. So I passed it up, and forgot about it.
Then Christmas came, and there it was under the tree for me. He is so good with the Christmas presents. You may remember the best Christmas Present ever. He knows I love a good project, and is willing to help me with them too.
The Pink is not my color. Too pastel, and has splotches of sage green paint. Not the best paint job I have ever seen. But I knew I was going to change the look of the window, it just took awhile to figure out how.
I has seen on a few blogs about Krylon Looking Glass spray paint. It is a paint that reflects like a mirror. The look is a bit “old”, not a clear mirror look. I have seen projects done to look like mercury glass. I wanted to try it out. At $11 a can, it was expensive. But not as much as having a piece of mirror cut.
I cleaned and cleaned this window. I didn’t want to sand it smooth before I painted. I like the look of layered paint. Will you look at that rusted, twisted hinge. I love that! The bad paint job? Not so much.
I forgot to take photos of painting of the frame. Here it is with two coats of paint. I got this quart of gray paint at Lowe’s in the miss-tints. It was only $2.50, and I barely used any of it for this project.
I love this dark gray color. It is so pretty.
The paint is layered and clean. The hinge looks great.
This is the back side of the window. It amazes me that this window has two such different colors on it. A pale pink on the outside and a mustard yellow on the inside. I bet that was a colorful house.
I made sure that the glass was well cleaned for the spray paint. Then I misted it with water.
This is just after one coat of the Looking glass paint. Do you see how it is reacting with the water. I love all the bubbling. This side of the paint is also looking more silver than mirror. Which is kind of cool that it does that.
Love those bubbles.
The texture it gets, is too cool.
Here it is after 4 coats of the Looking Glass paint. Again it looks silver here, but even the silver looks good.
Now flipped over, it looks more like a mirror. I love how the lead is as dark as the paint. The reflection is kind of like a gazing ball. I love it, it looks old.
An old Window that is now an old Mirror.
Do you love it?
Would you have done something different with the window?
