Hi There!
Here is a fun little makeover.
I love vintage suitcases, but sometimes they are not in that great of shape.
I got this guy at a garage sale, dirty and unloved. But all of that blue trim and handle called to me.
The inside is a beautiful blue satin lining. But oh my, was it smelly! And it was pulling away from the sides too. But those are easy fixes! Fabreeze and hot gun to the rescue!
You know I loved the price.
I scrubbed this guy down with dish soap, and then vinegar. I just thought that the color was a bit drab and I knew I could make it fun! So, here comes the paint.
I taped off the trim to paint the base of the suitcase.
I covered the handle and all the hardware too.
You can see that the surface was pretty worn and scratched.
Here he is all painted a new soft grey color.
So pretty all ready, but I am not done yet!
He still has scratches and dings in his trim and base. I didn’t want to get rid of all the wear and tear, that is part of what makes vintage items interesting. Where have they been? What have they seen? I just wanted to refresh what he is. Update him for my home.
Next, I used a ruler and made a grid on the front of the suitcase.
The plan is to paint the squares each different colors of blues and grays.
I decided not to make the grid on the sides. I might change my mind later.
I love the tarnish on the brass hardware. So pretty!
I will be back later with Part 2.
What do you think so far?
Have you done anything with an old suitcase before?
Thanks for stopping by!
