Master Bedroom Makeover and the ORC

One Room Challenge Guest Participant

After a small delay with everything that has been going on in the world, this week the One Room Challenge starts and I am taking part as a Guest Participant. For the Spring 2020 challenge, I will be taking on our Master Bedroom Makeover.

Yay! I am a Guest Participant!

The One Room Challenge is a bi-annual event that happens in the spring and fall of every year. It is a celebration of creativity and inspiration for the home decor blogging community. This is a forum for professional designers and over 200 guest participants. It’s a supportive and fun decorating challenge that I am so happy to be taking a small part in.

The ORC has teamed up once again with Better Homes and Gardens as the official media sponsor.

Hi! I’m Jackie

If this is your first time to my little blog- Welcome! I am so excited that you’re here. I’m Jackie, a jeans and t-shirt kind of woman who loves to craft and decorate on a small budget. The name of my blog is Jackie Can’t Blog because I am still learning about this whole blogging thing. You can read more about my blogging journey and all of the “whys” behind the blog name here on my Welcome Page.

Time to finish what I started

Cozy and eclectic bedroom
Our bedroom- warm, cozy and eclectic!

At the start of the new 2020 year, I started a much needed and craved makeover in our master bedroom. I was able to get some new curtains and new bedding. But I had not been able to get to a few bigger projects to bring our bedroom to the place I had envisioned in my head. You can read about what got in my way of finishing the room here- Cozy Electic Bedroom

Before we get into my new plans for the Master Bedroom Makeover– let’s take a quick look back at my past ORC rooms.

Spring 2018- Colorful Patio

My first ORC was in 2018- Colorful Patio

My first go-round with the ORC was our Colorful Patio that I worked on back in the spring of 2018. That was such a fun project! There was snow and flamingos and so much color! You can check out my three-part reveal below.

Spring 2019: Boho Living Room

An ORC Not Quite Final Reveal– Spring 2019

For my second time with the ORC, I took on our living room and gave it an upscale bohemian look. We bought the leather sofa of my dreams and an egg chair that wasn’t in the plan. I did a couple of small projects and played around with the layout of the room.

To tell the truth, I didn’t quite get to the final results that I was looking for in that room makeover either. I had grand plans and a few things just didn’t fall into place during the timeframe. We still got an updated room that we enjoy and is still evolving and changing to this date.

See my Not Quite a Final Reveal post to see where we did end up.

Pinterest Bedroom Inspiration

I don’t know about you, but I often turn to Pinterest for inspiration when I am taking on a new project. Let’s be honest- I turn to Pinterest to relax and maybe waste a little time too! I love it so much- it’s so fun to search and find so many sources on any topic that you can imagine!

My Master Bedroom Inspiration board shows bedrooms that are light and airy with bohemian touches. There is a lot of white walls, white bedding, bleached wood, small touches of black, accent textiles with patterns, and plants. Check out my board to get an idea of where I plan on going with this master bedroom makeover.

Master Bedroom Makeover-

the basic plan:

Here is a quick breakdown of my plan for our Master Bedroom Makeover

  • Week One- a super deep clean of the whole room, including the closet and dressers. Condensing down the number of clothes that we own.
  • Week Two- tackle the biggest project: strip and sand our two dressers down to the raw naked wood (more on that project below).
  • Week Three- paint the accent wall. We currently have a Navy Blue wall that will either go all White or have a White Pattern painted over the Blue. I haven’t decided just yet.
  • Week Four- a couple of sewing projects and a mirror makeover!
  • Week Five- the details, details, details. This week will concentrate on all those small detail projects.
  • Week Six- I will share the budget this week to show how I do with all the money.
  • Week Seven– extra time to make sure it’s all put together
  • Week Eight- the final reveal and celebration!!

Week One: We are here

Deep Clean of the Master Bedroom

This first week is all about sharing the basic plan and getting the room cleaned up and out for the real makeover to begin. We need to go through all of our clothes and empty these dressers for next week’s project. This is the truly messy part of the plan- so no pretty pictures will be shared of progress this week. #sorrynotsorry πŸ˜‰

Up Next Week:

The big project- naked dressers

pinterest board: naked wood furniture
Naked raw wood dresser

I am in love with the look of naked raw wood! I plan on stripping the two dressers that we use for nightstands down to the natural wood. Then we will experiment with bleach, a whitewash, and a lime wax technique to give our dressers the naked raw wood look that I’m after! It’s a look that’s a little farmhouse, a little beach house, and a little bohemian. I think that they will really lighten up the space. This is the project that I am the most excited about for this makeover.

I hope that you will follow along as I work on my One Room Challenge
