I had stenciled a cute little crate for my Easter table, that I love! But just to prove that I can’t blog, I forgot to take photos of the before, the during, but I do have an after! One out of three ain’t bad, right? ( I will be posting my Easter table later this week. )
Anyway, I love it so much that I wanted to stencil something else and saw this cute little flower box. I got this cute little guy at an Estate sale of course, he just needed a new home and some love. And this time I took some photos to show the transformation! See, still learning 😉
A balsa wood box with faux leather trim on the edges and handles. He is very light weight and has so much potential. There isn’t anything wrong with him, he’s just too plain.
I gave him and good cleaning and then got out some Blue tape and taped off all of the faux leather edges. You can never hold back on the prep of projects, it makes the outcome so much better every time.
You can see from the handle how thin the faux leather is, but its a cute detail I think.
I had this Diamond Steal pattern stencil that I wanted to try. Do you know Diamond Steal? You can buy it in sheets at the hardware store. It is hard for you to tell the pattern just yet, here it kind of looks like a Chevron pattern, just wait!
This is a paper stencil that came in a pack of 12 different patterns, perfect for these types of crafts. I could use it and throw it away if I wanted. I don’t!
I held the stencil in place and used black craft paint to dab on with a sponge brush. You could use an adhesive, or hold the stencil with tape. But this was going to be a quick craft, so no need for that here.
Here is one side after the stencil was pulled away, and the paint is still wet. Those bubbles in the paint will dry flat, they come from using a sponge brush. It used to drive me crazy, but now I know it won’t affect the end result.
Do you recognize the Diamond Steal pattern now?
Now here he is all dry and finished, and with the tape removed.
The paint has dried to a flat Black, and is much more subtle in person.
I love it!
It could be too masculine for a flower box. Don’t you think? But maybe now, he is just a small box or crate for a Man cave? Or office? Or a Boy’s room?
Maybe he could be used to style a bookcase, or a shelf?
In any case he is a useful container to put things in, for sure!
Thanks for stopping by to see my little project!
