Hello! I want to share with you a few Hygge Home Decorating Basics to help bring that cozy warm feeling to your home this winter and beyond
My sweet Instagram Friends and I are having our monthly blog hop. Our theme is textures and cozy winter decorating. Be sure to check out what the ladies have to share with you at the bottom of this post.
Right now- let’s talk Hygge Home Decorating Basics
What is Hygge decorating?
Hygge– noun
- a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being (regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture).-
- Hygge is a Danish and Norwegian word for a mood of coziness and comfortable conviviality with feelings of wellness and contentment.
Hygge has been a popular term the last few years to describe that feeling that we all want- cozy and contentment. For me here in the cold mid-west state of Michigan- during the freezing cold winter all we want is to be cozy.
I’m going to share a couple of tips to help you get that cozy Hygge feeling with your decor too.
A few of my go-to Hygge decor pieces
- Plush blankets with lots of cushy texture- try a quilt, fleece, flannel, faux fur, or woven cable knit blankets. What says that cozy Hygge feeling more than a comfy blanket?
- Candles and Diffusers- with scents that bring comfort- cinnamon, clove, pine, citrus, or peppermint
- Big fluffy pillows- try something with texture like tweed, or velvet. Look for pillows with added texture from pom-poms, fringe or macrame
- Baskets- woven textures galore! Bring in the Hygge cozy feeling with some baskets to hold blankets, a woven tray, put a plant in a basket, or even hang the baskets on the wall
What I love about Hygge Decorating?
I love that Hygge is not a look for you to try and achieve with your decorating. There’s no must-have decor piece to try and find.
Hygge is a feeling for you to capture. A feeling of warmth. Feeling of coziness. A feeling of contentment.
With the state of the world today- isn’t that what we all need? Contentment.
