How I like to Layer

The Front porch was looking good. All blue and pretty. But the plants were a little bit past their prime. And really, I was ready for a change. I wanted to mix it up, and keep it interesting. Let’s be honest, I also just like to decorate. So it was time to redo the porch.

This will be a long posting, with a lot of photos. I want to show how I layer everything and make it fun. I hope that I can show how anyone can do this too. Sorry about some of the “sun spots” in the pictures. The Sun couldn’t decide if it wanted to  be out or not. I just went with it.

A Blank Slate.

A Tall blue stool. This was on the porch before, but has moved spots.

I wanted some color, here comes a vintage yellow step stool. Found at a thrift store for $4. It has great rust and is a bit “rickety”. Not the best for anyone to step on and use, but I have another use for it

A short stool, painted blue and washed in purple.

A vintage chair with a red seat and back. A garage sale find for $3.

A small child’s stool in green-blue. You can’t see in the picture but it has circus animals on top. I found it thrifted for a few dollars.

A large galvanized metal lantern from Ikea. It has 4 or 5 candles inside I have never burned.

A citrus green planter with yellow Zinnia flowers. The planter I got at a garage sale for $5. It is heavy and has a crackle finish. It feels very modern to me.

A large galvanized bucket with trailing petunia’s. Purple, white, and red.

Another bucket with Painted Coleus. The leaves are red, green, and yellow “striped”. And they get little blue flowers. I love them.

A third metal bucket with Purple Potato vine. I love the black- purple color.

A plastic Swan planter. I love the kitsch of it. Seems like an “old lady” thing to have on your porch.

A multi-color mosaic candle holder on a purple painted stand. Both were from thrift stores, both only a dollar or two. The candle stand was gold when I got it, I have since painted it both black then purple. It may change again, if it moves somewhere else around the house.

A striped ice bucket. I got it at the same garage sale as the citrus green planter. I think it was a $1. The colors of the stripes tie in with the blue, green, and red.

The yellow owl pot is back. He bought a turquoise blue gnome friend with him. A purple ceramic strawberry pot, and another metal bucket with Coleus.

I like using the stools for height. A nice mix of colors and materials. Everything is layered, so you can enjoy it. Simple metal buckets are the neutrals that tie it all together.

There is nothing is too large. You can walk up the stairs easily.

Bright colors, galvanized buckets, painted furniture, pretty flowers and plants. I love it.
What do you think? Too much? Fun and pretty?
I vote fun 🙂
