Decorating for the holidays can take so much time. So much work. And so much energy. For such a short season.
Why not use holiday decor that can stay out all winter long?
Welcome back to another blog hop with my sweet Instagram Friends. For this special festive time of the year, we are sharing our tips on Holiday or Winter decorating.
Be sure to give some holiday cheer and check out the other Ladies’ posts at the bottom of this post.
It’s the small things…
During this hectic time of year, it is so important to spend your time wisely. There are so many holiday traditions and activities that we all do as families, even during this crazy year of 2020.
When decorating your home be sure to choose holiday decor to last all winter long. And keep that warm, cozy holiday feeling going as long as you can!
Like this beautiful emerald green cut glass candle, and a raw wood bead garland. They feel like Christmas, but can be so pretty out on display anytime of the year.
Ornaments aren’t just for the tree!
This basket full of mixed metal DIY ornaments can add a bit of shine to all of the dark gray winter days here in Michigan.
My DIY Fail- I tried to make DIY Mercury Glass Ornaments. And as much as I like these pretties- they didn’t turn out as expected. But they can still stay out all winter long to add some sparkle to a woven basket. Add a little bit of faux greenery and a couple of pine cones too!
Make A Pom Pom Wreath!
When choosing a wreath for the front door go for something that screams- SNOWBALL FIGHT!!! I love this DIY Pom Pom Wreath that I made this year. She is fat and heavy and so great! Check out my post- DIY Anthropologie Dupe Pom Pom Wreath– for details to make your own Pom Pom Wreath!
Holiday decor to last all winter long
On the front porch, the decor has to last!
When decorating the front porch for the holiday I know that the decor will most likely stay out until the end of January at least! For us here in Michigan the snow comes heavy in January and February, and no one wants to be out in it! Knowing I won’t be out in the freezing cold to change up the decor I try to use decor to last.
This year I have taken a rustic approach to the porch- flannel, pinecones, trees, little metal houses, and snowflakes!
Kind of a cabin feel, don’t cha think?
I had to make the famous DIY craft of the season- A Paper bag Snowflake! These are so easy to make and are everywhere on Instagram this year. The shape and color look great for the rustic theme I have going and can stay out for the whole winter season.
Back in the house- there are so many little trees and houses too!
For the built-ins this season- I lined the back wall with some black and cream ticking stripe wrapping paper. Then filled the shelves with lots of little bottle brush trees.
This cute black metal pitcher stays out all year long- but looks so festive with a faux pine branch and pinecones. That’s an easy tip- buy real looking faux greenery that will last and last!
For me, this looks warm and cozy and will most likely be out until the end of January at least!
Looking for holiday artwork that can stay out all winter long?
Frame some wrapping paper! I loved this Pine branch and pinecones black and cream wrapping paper so much- that I filled 6 picture frames with it!
So pretty and a print that can stay out all winter long
Warm and cozy textures on the couch
Warm and cozy is the feeling we all want when it comes to decorating our home for any season.
A cozy faux fur throw blanket is just the thing that you need on your couch.
As I was taking these photos, my boy Pepe jumped in to show you just how warm and cozy this little spot is. You can see he jumped up, gave me a look as if I was in his way, made himself a cozy spot on top of the pillows, and then proceeded to lay down for a nap.
Take it from Pepe- you need a warm and cozy blanket for the winter!
Winter decor to dress up the TV
This black vase is another social media DIY craft that I had to try- baking soda and paint was all it took to make a glass vase look like stone. I love it!
I filled the vase with more faux greenery, placed a couple of warm amber glass candles, and a homemade pom-pom to dress up the TV.
I think that these colors and textures will last all winter long. Making even the TV a little bit warm and cozy.

My favorite is the pine printed paper framed. These natural wood tones are beautiful for winter.
