Halloween Crafts- DIY Dead and Breakfast sign

Hi There!

This is the last Halloween posting for the year. I promise.
It will also be a short one, in that I lost some of the photos of the process. I am trying to get better with these crafting postings, so please bare with me.
I saw a few of these signs on Pinterest. I am sure you can find many tutorials out there.
This is how I made my sign.
I found this lovely Country Kitchen art a few weeks ago out thrifting. I hated the art, but loved the thick piece of wood with a picture hanger already on the back. And it was only $3.

It’s hard to tell in the photo above but the paint was a puffy paint. It took two coats of stripper to take most of it off. It never came all the way off. Not even with a bit of hand sanding.
Here is where the lost photos happened.
Just close your eyes and imagine. No, wait, keep them open and keep reading! 😉
I painted the board black, and then washed a creamy white over the top. Letting the black show through the white.
My daughter helped me create the words for the sign on the computer. We played around with fonts and sizes, and printed it out on plain copy paper. I cut them out with scissors.
I used regular white glue to glue down the words to the board.
I used some watercolor paints to wash the paper to make it look old and match the wood.

For the Vacancy part of the sign, we had some scrap wood in the garage.
I painted it black and white to match. My boyfriend drilled the two holes to hang it from.
I used cup hooks I had in my odd and ends box- to hang it from the main sign.
Yes, they are different sizes. I had four different cup hooks in the box, and these two were close in size. I like that it hangs a little bit off, and that the hooks are different colors.

I have gotten so many complements on this sign.
It was pretty easy to do, and I love it.

This is my favorite photo of the sign and the Raven on the porch light.
There you have it.
That was the last Halloween craft of the year.
I hope you enjoyed my Gothic Halloween decor this year.
Who knows what I will do next time! 😉
Now for Thanksgiving decor, can’t wait.
Thanks for stopping by!
Come back and see what happens next.
