Decorating With Monochrome Color. Or Colors!!

I just LOVE Color!

When it comes to decorating my home, I just need color in my design. I tried to go with a Beige/ Gray/ White Monochrome color scheme a couple of years ago and it just wasn’t me. I needed more colors! Now I have embraced that change and have added more and more color to my home and my decor. It’s fun, bright, and inviting and makes me smile. But maybe there is a way to go Monochrome with Color!

A couple of months ago, a hashtag group that I’m in on Instagram did a Monochrome decor challenge. What’s a hashtag group? A group of home decor accounts that get together and promote each other up. We also run hashtag challenges to inspire others to decorate to a theme and post photos using the hashtag for all to see. It’s very supportive and inspiring. The challenge really got me motivated, so today I thought I would share a few of my favorite photos that I took to promote the hashtag!

A Monochrome decorating scheme stays within a very tight color pallet. Using one or two colors only. For this first photo I wanted to see a lot of texture, so I used light Cream or Tan natural wood tones. Then adding some twine and string, beads, lace, and wicker all in the same light colors. Clear glass jars and containers add a bit of shine and reflection. Putting a plant in the wicker Elephant basket adds a natural element to keep it all from feeling flat. I really love how this one came out.

The Green glass bottles and jars were the inspiration for this sweet vignette. To complete the scene I collected from around the room a beaded garland, the cute little cactus vase, a little embroidery hoop-art done by me, and of course more Green plants. I wasn’t as tight in the color scheme here- still lots of wood tones with the wicker, beads, and Brown/ Gray clay pots. But to mix it up a little bit more I added a matchstick table runner with Green and Reds and Orange colors too. Even adding just that small amount of extra color I feel it still clearly has a dominant Green Monochrome theme.

My favorite color is BLUE. I have said it many times before here on the blog, and if you came to the house you would see it too. Blue is everywhere in my home. In this monochrome vignette, I collected many different shades of Navy or Dark Teal Blues. A couple of tie-dye art pieces, lots of blue glass, another embroidery hoop art done by me, and one dark green plant. I love the moodiness of this photo, and the light coming in from the right. Not everyone likes shadows in their home decor photos, but I do. This is a real home, and I am not afraid to have it look like one, even in my Instagram photos!

For this photo, I went outdoors to the garden. As I just said Blue is my favorite color, and Green is a companion color to it. Blue and Green colors are on the Cool side of the color wheel and are the colors that I am most drawn to. But Yellow and Orange can make my heart sing! Put these two warm colors together and its a fantastic combination. To start off these Orange pansies called to me this year at the garden center.  Then this little chair was a roadside (read- FREE) find that needed a makeover- Orange spray paint to the rescue. Add a couple of thrifted Orange mosaic candle holders, and a new Yellow decorative birdcage. My little Yellow Owl is a favorite that has been used over and over in my outdoor decor. And that Yellow planter on the bottom left? The annuals came from the nursery in it! Bonus Decor!!! I really love how bright and fun this little vignette is, and its a nice spot to look at in my garden.

This last photo is most definitely a favorite. Blues and Purples- always a good combination. I played around with a few filters on my phone for this one too. Not something I normally do but was fun none the less. I pulled out all of my dishes in the Blue and Purple colors and made this table setting. I don’t have enough of any of these dishes to make more than one setting- good thing it was only for a photo- the life of a thrifter! Then for the live element, I went for a few Pansie flowers scattered among the dishes. The Yellow centers of the Pansies add that little something extra, don’t you think?
