Color makes all the Difference

Hi There!

I have been busy painting.
I love to paint, I love the prep and the clean up.
I love the smell.

And I love how it can make all the difference in how a room feels.

I also believe that color can affect how you feel. I have not been loving the beige-yellow color our cute little rental was painted. I know they were going for a neutral, but I was feeling anything but neutral about it. It was time to change the paint, and how I was feeling…

I chose a soft gray color- Polar Star by Valspar at Lowes.
I started with the bathroom, but have gone on to paint all the common areas in our rental home the same soft color. I love it, it makes me so happy!

If you want to see my first bathroom tour go here

Okay, I am the first to admit I am not the best photographer.
And these photos are not my favorite, but I am trying to get better.
Try and stay with me 😉
This bathroom is so small and it is so difficult to photograph.
Even so, I think it looks so much better!

I took down the ugly rental mini blinds, and hung a homemade set of cotton lace curtains.
This was a scrap piece of fabric I had in my stash. I cut it in half, and hemmed all the edges. It took me less than a half an hour to complete. I love a quick project!

For the hardware I spray painted a simple cafe rod from Target, black. I think it was about $4.
The curtain clips came from Ikea, and they were $4 for a package of 10 of them. I bought a couple of packages awhile ago, and may have a little stash of more of them hiding.
This room needed a little black, and the hardware was the easy choice for that.

Now since this was a scrap piece of fabric I had, the curtains are not as full as I would like.
I think that I want to add trim to all the edges, maybe some white pom pom trim. I think it will make them feel a bit fuller. Of course, I will want to get it at a good price first. Use a coupon maybe?
I will keep you in the loop with what I decide to do…

This photo looks the most like it does in real life.
Light and bright and clean!

The bathroom is so small, that the lids on the jars started to rust from all the moisture.
Out came a can of Rust-oleum spray paint, in Oil rubbed bronze.
It is the perfect brown-black color. It was another super quick project.

Let me tell you, it is harder to take a photo of a toilet then you think. I took 6 or more, and this was the best one.
I love how bright the bathroom now feels. The soft gray was a good choice!

The gray of the walls now has enough of a blue undertone, that the blue Ball jar pops and looks so pretty. I could paint or change out the ring on the soap dispenser/ jar, but I love the rust here! Here it looks rustic and on purpose. But on the lids of the Q-Tip jars on the toilet, it looked old and uncared for.

The doors look cleaner, and now the blue tile in the shower looks brighter. And the colors make sense together.

I framed some paper hand towels that a friend gave me. I just love the octopuses. The details are so cool in the graphic drawings.
I had the hardest time taking photos of the art work. I kept getting reflections in the glass. And I am not happy with the silver of the frames. I think I want to change it all out, but for now I will live with it and see.

The problem with taking photos in such a small room is, you need the light on for it to be bright enough for photos.

Yet, you get all these funky shadows. I am reading other bloggers tips on taking photos, but they all have fancy DSLR cameras. I don’t have one at this time, it is one of my “wish” list items. One day…

Well, there you have kind of an weird posting.
One part- paint and how it makes you feel.
One part- trying to be a better blogger.
One part- bathroom tour.
One part- thrifting and makeover projects.
But that is the subject matter I like to read about.
And I hope you enjoy it too!
Thanks for stopping by!
