The story of a new coffee table continues.
I have been wanting a new coffee table for a while now. I’ve looked for one at thrift stores, garage sales, and even took a trip to Ikea. I have been wanting something square to fit in with our sectional. I just couldn’t find one that worked for our living room.
Here is a little backstory, last year I got a divorce and sold my house of 15 years. We had so much stuff to go through, it took months. Over a year and a half, I had 8 garage sales, and donated a ton of stuff. I needed to let a lot of stuff go. I was ready for a clean start, a new life.
With such a clean slate, I forget sometimes what I have kept.
Enter a square wood table that has lived in my son’s room for the last 8 to 10 years. I had totally forgotten about this table. It didn’t fit in with my son’s new bedroom, but he wasn’t ready to let it go. We had put it in the basement with all of his other things that he wanted to store. I was in the basement looking for something else when I saw it. I asked him if I could use it until I find a table of my own. And oh yea, and I want to paint it too. He said it was okay, he knows I will paint it for him when he is ready to use it again.
This table was a dark navy blue. I lightly sanded and washed the table for painting.
I used some of the gray mis-tint paint from Lowe’s that I used for the window turned mirror. This is how it looked after just after one coat of paint. Look at how well it covered the blue. I love those paint and primer mixes. Awesome coverage.
Now look at it after two coats of paint. A beautiful gray that is enough of a neutral to go with all my other colors. Yet, a great color all on it’s own. I love this color so much.
I let the paint dry for a few days in the garage. Then I brought it in and styled it up. Thats the fun part, right? The baskets hold all my magazines, and catalogs. The two trays on top I have had for years. They have each been painted a few times. They were both black before I dry brushed some green and blue paint over them. The green tray is just nestled inside the blue. I love to layer items.
This photo gives you a sneak peek at my new pillow covers from Ikea, and my new rug. More on those in another posting.
This table is a little bit too tall, but it is square. The baskets don’t fit exactly right, but they are pretty. Its not the ideal table that I have been wanting. But for now it will do, until I find the table I really want. I will know it when I see it, you know?
To be continued…..
