Another little spot in the back yard. Small, but I have made it cute and colorful.
When we moved in, this spot had a few little waxy perennials. The bricks were there to outline the little bed next to the walkway. A nice start. This spring I moved the stepping stone I made years ago here. I like how the orange glass is almost the same color as the bricks. I also planted some cute little light pink flowers. I don’t remember the names, I just wanted cute.
The woman who lived here seemed to have a lot of terra-cotta pots. I have found broken pieces all over the yard. And a couple of pots buried in the flower beds. I started collecting all of these odd pieces, not knowing what to do with them.
Then I thought, maybe I could make a bit of a mosaic with the pieces. Almost like the stepping stone. And they could act like mulch, in that they could keep the soil moist. I placed the pieces all around the flowers. Pushing them into the soil just a bit.
Of course I didn’t have enough pieces that were found in the yard. So I looked in my garden “stuff” I brought from my old house, I had a few little broken pots to add to the mix. Those are the yellow bits you see. I try not to be a hoarder, but sometimes it works out. A friend also gave me a few broken pieces she had. Thanks 😉
I pulled all these rocks out of this little bed. And piled them in the corner.
And a few green and blue glass beads for a touch a color. I get them from garage sales and the dollar store. I use them all the time. A fun unexpected touch, I think.
Right next to the garage is an Ikea cart I got at a, you guessed it, Garage sale! Just $8, so much less than it would have been new. And of course I love the turquoise color.
Lavender and Rosemary plants, so pretty, and smell so good. Blue and green pots, I love those colors.
Empty tequila bottles, too pretty to throw away. Soft green pottery to add color. A little rusted metal tray I found by the curbside. A tiny stone turtle. Just decorations, all of it.
I almost didn’t put up this photo. A cactus, some cilantro that is tall, leggy, and going to flower, and a orchid with one lonely leaf. Not the most pretty filled pots I have. But I want to keep the blog “real” and show you the good and some of the bad too. Don’t judge too much 😉
Another pretty little spot right outside the back door. Even though we are renting, I am making this house our home. Little details can really make a difference. And they don’t have to be expensive.
What would you have done? Some smalls projects to make it pretty? Or overlooked it?
