Hi there, how are you?
Have you ever heard of Barn Quilts?
Well- simply put, they are painted quilt block patterns on wood that are hung on the side of a barn.
They can be simple or complex. They are all beautiful and I think they are awesome!
Last summer I painted a cork board with a double wedding ring pattern. I love it so much. You can see how I painted a found by the side of the road cork board and made it pretty here.
Since then I have painted a few more small canvases with this pattern.
Here is my latest project…it was a fast-fun one!
I got this small press board piece of art at a thrift store for $1.
Dirty, paint chipped, and faded- it was ready for a change.
I’ll bet the woman who bought this new for her home loved these flowers. I know that I like them. I will also bet, that when they were fresh and new they were so pretty.
I scrubbed the whole piece clean with a household cleaner. Then I just wiped it down the some plain white vinegar to make sure it was really clean. After it was completely dry, I started to paint the whole piece. Here it is after the first coat of light gray paint. I used a craft paint I had on hand. It took two coats to cover the flowers completely.
When the background paint was dry, I drew out my pattern. I made the grid first, then drew the intersecting circles. Then it was the fun part, painting out the pattern. I decided to just paint all of the petals the same lime green color. This was done so fast, just under an hour, that I forgot to take more pictures! Ooopps!
When all of the petals were painted, I framed out the whole piece by painting the edges dark gray. Then to protect my work, I sprayed it with a top coat to seal it.
Here it is hanging on a 3M Command strip on the side of the garage on the patio.
I love the pattern.
I love the colors.
I love a fast craft.
What do you think?
Stop by again soon!
