This fall I was having a bit of Decorator’s Block. It’s kind of like a Writers Block, but only for decorating. It was the end of September and I wanted to decorate for Halloween, but I also wanted to wait until October 1st before the Scary stuff came out.
Here is a quick look at how I merged a late fall look that could easily go Dark for Halloween. Here come the Pumpkins…
Fall colors for me are Brown, Black, Orange, and Purples. These are all warm colors that just speak fall. These colors nod to the changing of the seasons and turning of leaf colors. For this Fall Front Porch and just for fun, I added some Gray or Silver color too. A Brown wood table, a Black lantern and pot, some Orange Pumpkins and Mums, and a Purple Potato vine. I used three of my favorite Silver galvanized buckets to hold the Mums.
My Ferns this year got so BIG!!! So big in fact I had take them off the porch and put them in the flower bed. One is on top of a metal crate, that you can’t see. And the other in the back, is on top of a milk can. I love how they look, and it makes me so happy to see how big and healthy they got.
The wood work bench was a Craigslist score for $10!! It is homemade and a little quirky, the man who sold it to me said his father made it. They were getting rid of it because they were moving out of state. I happily took it and gave it a new home. Homemade and quirky is my jam!
I bought another large pumpkin, some little pie pumpkins, and a couple little white pumpkins. All adding to a Fall feel, but leading to Halloween. I also found another black lantern, I love that this one is square.
One the other side of the porch I set a garage sale chair that I got for $3- score! It was once painted black, but enough of the paint has worn away that it looks dark and spooky. A dark gray painted stool, an old black chippy paint coal bucket filled with Purple flowers, and a misshapen pumpkin.
These two coal buckets came from an estate sale. They are old and rusted and dented and paint chipped and have holes in the bottom. Can you tell why I love them?
Nothing about this Dark Fall porch took a lot of time or money. And all of it transitioned from fall to Halloween nicely. Thats what I love about decorating! Finding what you love and making it work. Do you decorate for the seasons?
