Fairy Gardens have been pretty popular for the last few years. But what about a Gnome Garden?
Well if you have been following me for some time, you know that I don’t like to do what everyone else does so I am going to show you my take on a little Gnome Garden. I think it’s kinda sweet and really cool!
On our back porch, we have just enough room for a small shelf behind the door. It’s a pretty little space that I like to decorate every year. The Black and White Aztec pattern artwork is a DIY that I did a while back. I thought it made a nice backdrop and a good starting point for my little Gnome Garden. Then I layered an empty thrift store Black frame in front of it to add more interest. I really like how the bright colors pop against the black and white.
Now I think that I know what you must be thinking… You use “artwork” outside? Please don’t be afraid to bring a DIY or Thrift store artwork outside! It’s that kind of out of the box thinking that makes decorating fun! You can see how I used this same Aztec piece for my Rustic Winter front porch in this post here.
I found these sweet little red mushrooms with white polka dots, and I had the black and white polka dot bucket in my collection. Even the lime green cactus planter has a polka dot pattern! The polka dots add that little “something” to the whimsy for my Gnome Garden. Repeating colors and patterns is important in the design of any room, even a Gnome Garden Room!
Here’s my little Gnome in front of his Target Dollar Spot Camper, holding ironically a “Fairy Garden” sign. The Camper was originally just the Brown, White, and Blue. Cute but not the look I wanted. So, I took a Silver Sharpie to some of the Brown parts of the camper to give it more of a vintage Streamline trailer look. It was a simple and quick DIY. I made something big box more personal to me. Again- don’t be afraid to change something up to fit your taste and style. I am here to support you!
The Camper was set up for our Gnome for a few weeks and I thought that the Gnome Garden was complete before I came across this sweet little English Cottage candle holder at a garage sale. It’s terracotta and has a couple of chips, but it was only a $1 and I had to bring it home for my little Gnome! I placed the Cottage in a galvanized bucket with some moss from the garden center. I then added more of the polka dot mushrooms and some dollar store marbles. Now- he has a House to come home to after camping! Oh, the exciting life my little Gnome is living! I am kinda jealous 😉
Then, because a room is never done- while cleaning up the basement I found these cute little Gnome Christmas ornaments that I had gotten on clearance after the holidays. They were less than a dollar and in a pretty matte finish. I took some barbers twine and made them into a garland and strung it across the Aztec artwork to break up all the Black and White. A finishing touch that made this little spot even more special. Maybe even a little magical!
All of these little details took a few weeks to come together, but the end result is so cute and cool! It just goes to show that even when decorating a Gnome Garden, take your time to find the right accent pieces. It will all come together and it will turn out beautiful!
Then a sweet smiling Hedgehog moves in next door. And now your Gnome has a new neighbor and you decorate a little spot for him- with a tree stump and a little bridge. Just add a few glass rocks for color and more fun.
There you have it! A pretty cool and colorful Gnome Garden. I hope that it has inspired you to add a little- get it little?– magic to your home. 🏡
Thanks so much for stopping by my little blog, I really do appreciate it!
