How would you spend $10 to decorate?
That was my challenge to my Sweet Moda Link Up friends Ashlee of Sweet Southern Oaks and Liz of Living With Liz. For our last blog link-up, we each wrote about thrifting. Thrifting is such a great way to stretch your decorating budget. I like that using second-hand finds keeps those items out of the landfill. And it is a great way to add character to your decor. Giving your home a look that is all yours.
What if you only had $10 to shop and decorate with?
Where would you go?
How would you make sure to get the most of your money?
That’s our challenge. Just $10 to find and style a little something in our homes. Now, I knew that I could go thrifting once again. Go and hit up my favorite thrift stores to look for something unique to decorate with. And you know how I love going to thrift stores and estate sales. For this challenge, I decided to go another route and buy something new that I don’t often find at the second-hand stores. Soap.
Soap? Yup, hand soap.
There are some home decor items that can get over-looked. I feel like the hand-soap bottle is one of them. It is such a small detail that can add so much to your kitchen or bathroom decor. It’s one item that I look for when I go to discount stores like Home Goods and TJ Maxx.
Look at this dark brown apothecary glass bottle that I found with its vintage style typography label. Vintage in style and color- yet new!
This is a large 32-ounce bottle of hand soap for just $7.99. That should last quite a while- so for me, it’s a pretty good bargain. The bottle itself is so pretty and if it were bought separately it could have been at least $8. A pretty bottle and hand soap- score!!! And then when the bottle is empty I can refill it with bargain grocery store soap. Money well spent if you ask me!
Mixing Vintage and Bohemian styles
I have styled my new apothecary-style hand-soap bottle in our bohemian decorated bathroom. Mixing decor styles is another way to add a unique twist to make your home a style that is all yours.
We’re renting our cute little MCM home. So, I can’t make any permanent changes. I have used these removable tiles in both our kitchen and here in our bathroom. They add a nice pop of color and pattern that I crave. My new brown glass apothecary bottle brings out all of the earth tone colors from the tiles. The brown glass is also a good match for the jar metal lids.
Well, what do you think?
I love that for under $10 I was able to get something both pretty and practical. My bathroom now has a cute refresh for fall.
Let’s see what the ladies have been up to with their $10 challenge

I love the vintage look of the amber soap bottle. I never thought to look at the soap at TJ Maxx – what a great idea!
