Hi there! Today I am back with my good friends of the Sweet Moda Blog Project- Ashlee of Sweet Southern Oaks and Liz of Living with Liz. With the holidays approaching and Thanksgiving just a couple of weeks away. We are each going to give you some Fall inspiration to help you with your preparation for that BIG meal!
Lets set the table!
Setting the table for special occasions is a favorite passion of mine. I thought I would share some tips for styling a basic white plate for your Thanksgiving table. I hope that I can show you that just swapping out a couple of items you can get a different look to fit whatever your personal style may be.
As with most of my home decor, I am always trying to work with a tight budget. I go to thrift stores, garage and estate sales looking for good deals. Take these pretty white plates. I found a full set of these White Ikea plates at a garage sale. Brand new they’re very affordable at $4.99 each, but I was able to snag mine for $1 each. This plate will be used for each of our three place settings.

Add a charger or placemat
Whether you use a tablecloth or not it is nice to define each place setting with a simple charger or placemat. Consider this your base layer or foundation for the place setting. I really like the added texture of the wicker, but you can use whatever you have on hand. I have seen very pretty chargers at the dollar store that you can use. Or you can spray paint them to match whatever season or style you may chose.
Simple Farmhouse Feels
With the charger and plate in place, you can now add the personality to the setting. For this first look, I choose to go a little Farmhouse with a black and white striped napkin, topped with our everyday silverware. Next, I layered a Rae Dunn paper plate that I found at Home Goods. And to keep that simple homey Farmhouse style- I added a tall Ball jar with some paper straws. Using what I already had and buying a couple of pretty paper goods makes this an easy and affordable way to change up your place settings for every occasion.
Classic and Pretty
For the second look, I swapped out the napkin for an embroidered tea towel. I wanted to showcase that pretty detail of the towel so I layered it over the plate and charger. I then placed my cream resin handle silverware on each side of the plate. And for drinks, I used a simple wine glass.
Don’t have embroidered towels? That’s ok- use whatever you think is pretty. Have an amazing floral napkin? Showcase that pattern!
Boho made simple
For the last look, I chose to go very Boho neutral with a matching white salad plate layered on top. Adding a thrift store linen napkin in a classic cream color. And bringing back the tall Ball jar for drinks. Then to top everything off- one simple craft store feather on the plate for decoration.

I love how you styled a white plate 3 ways! This is such a great idea because these tips can be used for any season or occasion, too! The Rae Dunn one is my favorite. Wishing you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving!
