I love crates and bins and galvanized buckets. I found these cute Christmas galvanized bins on clearance last year. That’s right- over a year ago. They have been sitting in my basement all that time waiting for their turn for a makeover. Looking at them I wanted to update them to be able to use all year round.
Now I could have easily just left the cute Greens and Berries garland, and if that fits your decor I say go for it! But for me, it was just a little too cute and a little too Christmasy. Is that really a word “Christmasy”? Yup, I’m going for it!
Transform with Paint!
The most simplest way to update any item is with Paint! It can cover up and transform just about anything. I love paint- spray paint, wall paint, craft paint, chalk paint- give it all to me.
For me, the obvious decision was to cover up the Greens and Berry Garland with some Black Paint. To get ready to paint over the Garland I first used some painters tape that I had on hand.
Start with Painter’s Tape
Using the painter’s tape I taped off both the top and bottom of the Garland. Eyeballing it and trying to keep the tape lines as even as possible. I think that it came out pretty straight.
Just Add Black Craft Paint
After all the tape was in place I made sure to rub it down to help keep any paint leaks in check. Then I used a standard sponge craft paint brush and dabbed Black craft paint in between the tape. Let the paint dry and remove
Then you have a bin with a super cool Industrial vibe and black stripes! Yay! But because it’s me- I then took a white paint pen and added another pin stripe. Crazy, right?
Pretty Chic huh?
I really love how they came out. They were cute bins before, but now they’re cool and chic for sure. What do you think? Let me know in the comments below.
