Hi There! I am so glad you dropped by!
I was sitting in the living room, watching TV. Losing brain cells, I’m sure.
And I just loved how the light was hitting this small vignette I have on the top of a small bookcase.
Whats a girl to do? Get out her camera and go take some pictures.
This is the top of a little bookcase I have had for years. It sits between the TV armoire and the window. The curtains are drop cloths from the hardware store hemmed and hung on rings.
Since I painted all of the walls in the main living spaces this soft gray, I am loving how all of my things look against it. This color makes more sense with my style and other color choices.
The vintage window I made over into a mirror, and you can see that make over in this post here.
This little vignette is sitting in a thrifted aluminum tray, and I am sure it was only a couple of dollars at the most. I look for these all the time, they add that silver/metal color that I love. Sometimes they are scratched or have knife marks in the them, but I still collect them to use. I corral items in them like this, or use them as drain saucers for plants. I have used them inside and outside, they clean up well. And if I get a little rust on them, I steel wool it off. And if that doesn’t work, I will just use them outdoors.
A good vignette will have a mix of textures.
Here there is a mix of four different types of glass. The mercury glass of the mirror and the small candle holder on the left. The dark cobalt blue of the seltzer bottle on the left. The clear dotted glass of the tapered vase in the middle, that was only .79 cents from Ikea. And the wavy light blue glass vase on the right. Each a different color and texture.
I love Orchids! They are pretty, take little care, and last for weeks- if not months.
This little orchid was bought at the grocery store. He came in this brown clay and black washed pot. AND this is his second time blooming!! I can usually get a orchid to get buds with one or two that will open into flowers. But this little guy must really like it at our house! All seven of the buds opened up into blooms!
I am still amazed it happened.
Will you look how pretty that is? I love it!
This little bird adds another layer of color and texture. I just love his turquoise color and cracked glaze finish. And you guessed it, he came from the thrift store for only a dollar!
The seltzer bottle was given to me by a good friend who had two of them. She gave it to me after I had complained that there was one at an Estate sale and they wanted $50 for it. Sometimes all you have to do is put out there in the universe what it is that you want. And sometimes a good friend will hear you. I love that the bottle still has the deposit tag on it, and it came from Detroit!
The light, the textures, the reflections, the colors. I just love it all!
A lovely little vignette.
What do you think?
What little space do you have in your house that makes you smile?
Thanks for stopping by!
