Thanks so much for coming over!
If this is your first time here to my little blog- Welcome!
My name is Jackie, of Jackie Can’t Blog. I am a jeans and t-shirt kind of woman- who love tacos, thrifting, a good DIY/ Craft, my family, and my puppies. Perhaps- not necessarily in that order. 😉
Why is my blog called Jackie Can’t Blog? Well, when I started out I had NO IDEA what I was doing. So, I named it Jackie Can’t Blog– thinking I would change it later and that was almost 6 years ago. Even though I know more than I did then, I still sometimes think “how am I going to do that?”
You can read more about me and my blogging story here on my 10 Facts about Jackie Page.
My hope for my blog is that while I continue to learn how to get this blogging thing down- that I can share some home decor inspiration for how you too can decorate your home on a budget. Let’s get started!
Where to start?
At Pinterest of course! When starting a new project I often go to Pinterest for ideas and inspiration. It can be so fun searching- a bit addictive too!
I then often make a new board to keep track of the images that inspire me. Want to check out my new board for this project?

I found so many fun ideas on how to make my own Sunburst Mirror! There are ideas for using all sorts of materials that are very budget-friendly. I saw chopsticks, wooden skewers, popsicle sticks, wood shims, raffia, bamboo, dowels, paint sticks, driftwood… the list goes on and on!
Are you on Pinterest too?
Please go and give me a follow! I would be so appreciative.
My take on a DIY Sunburst Mirror
As I am trying to decorate my home on a budget, I wanted to spend as little as possible for this project. If I can make an item or refresh a thrift store find into what I want- I will totally go that route first. I believe in going low end on accessories for your home so that you can save to splurge on big-ticket items like furniture.
Check your craft stash and the dollar store for supplies to make this project-
At the very top of this photo, you can see a wood round that I already had in my craft stash painted black. Yes! It was already painted and ready to go! I have a box near my stash that I fill with items that I know need a base coat of paint. I often use flat black and will paint all of the items at once to save time later. Then when I am working on a project I have items at the ready. What other items are in the box? Thrift store canvases, Christmas tree ornaments, and a plastic Gnome or two.
The base for the mirror- check! Cost- Free
Wanting to keep costs low on this project I then went to the dollar store to see what else I could find for the project. First on the shopping list was a round mirror- this black-framed one I found is 7 1/2″ across the frame. Just the right size- not too small or too big. This was important since I wasn’t sure how this project would turn out or where I was going to decorate with it afterward.
Cost for the mirror- $1
Two elements found- one to go
The second item on the shopping list? Something to use for the Sunburst rays…
I originally was looking for small dowels or wooden skewers, but then I saw these simple wood clothespins. And I remembered seeing that someone had made a mirror or a wreath with clothespins and it was pretty cute. Why not try it?
I picked up three packs of clothespins and off they went into the cart! When I got home I just took the clothespins apart by twisting the two sides so that the spring clasp would come loose. Easy-peasy!
Cost for three packs of clothespins- $3 Total cost for supplies? $4- now that’s budget-friendly 😉
Time to get the glue and assemble the mirror! Using the wood round as the base I centered the black-framed mirror and then surrounded it with the clothespin pieces. I used a combination of superglue and hot glue because it was what I already had in my stash. (Don’t have a stash of your own? Ask a friend who loves to craft- I assure you they have some items that they’re saving.) In all, I believe it took me just over an hour to get all of the clothespins glued back to back and then around the mirror.
Time to Paint!
When all of the gluing was complete- I covered the mirror with painters tape and spray painted the whole thing with some extra Rustoleum Dark Bronze paint that I already had in the stash. I really like the way that the after it was all painted one color- each element gave the mirror so much detail. The frame and the clothespins really stand out.
Well, that’s it! So simple.
I am pretty happy with how my DIY Sunburst Mirror turned out, it is just the look I was going for. And it was a fun and fast craft on a super tight budget. That makes me a happy woman for sure!

Jackie, I love your sunburst mirror. Using the clothespins the way you did was genius. Love the color too. Don’t we all love our “stashes”. Great directions too.
